I must admit that I felt some small disappointment that after the grand chateau Lady Vazquez secure for us last year that our accommodations were going to be somewhat more meagre in appearance. Hiring a large house in England is far more expensive and difficult than Belgium. Bath YMCA was a pleasant surprise however. Sharing accommodation, few of us interacted much with the other guests who hailed from all over the globe but the staff were all very helpful and friendly and willing to get involved. The premises were clean, well-maintained and sufficiently comfortable, with our small twin rooms housing up to 6 people for impromptu get-togethers and the larger communal rooms we had served their purpose very well.

The only true issues really were the lack of parking available nearby and the very strange electric sockets that would only switch on if your bedside lamp was illuminated making it impossible to charge, say, a telephone overnight while sleeping.

I didn’t sleep very much for the whole time but I think that was more associated with the excitement of the whole event and not wanting to miss any waking moment.
