Introduction

One late evening I invited Lord Quartermaine to my Hall and after some casual talking,

Catching up on past weeks events I asked him for an interview.

He was more than happy to give me an exclusive insight of his life for Truewatch Spotlight.

The Interview

Lord Quartermaine resides in Graystone Yard, where he has a comfortable little inn – room which he is sharing with his aviak pet.

Lord Quartermaine says “I like Graystone Yard, its quiet and lots of fish.”

I asked him to give a short introduction of himself and he answered:

“ I am Lord Quartermaine Pelt’ Foot, Oath Holder of the Pelt’ Foot clan, Barbarian, Guardian and a Page of Truewatch. I am a simple man who seeks honour in every action and ale in every waking moment.”

I asked him to tell me his vital statistics and Lord Quartermaine answered with a laugh.

“Well, with my armour I weight possibly two tons, without my boots I reach a good six and a half feet and if you want to know the colour of my eyes, you just have to gaze into them.”

Which I did… And ladies, they are quite the sight!

On the question if Lord Quartermaine has any relatives in Truewatch his eyes got lost in the distance as though his mind ventured some place far, far away.

After a few moments silence I got my answer:

“ No, I am the first the Pelt’ Foot to venture far from my village in a long time I’m afraid, but I do have some who plan to join me in Qeynos at some point.”

Seeing him gaze into the distance like that made me wonder where his village where.

“The Village… A few yurts and a fishing pool… *grins* It lies to the north of Everfrost.” *Quartermaine gets lost in memories again, choughs and apologizes*

“I came to Qeynos for many reasons… The main purpose however was a carving for the unknown. I came seeking honour, glory and beauty. And in one night I found the Truewatch, the Unicorn and something that more than constitutes the third. The Watch has welcomed me warmly and offered everything I could possibly need, aid in hardship, company in mirth and a shoulder in defeat.”

One the question to weather Lord Quartermaine has made any friends in the Watch he answers with a stunning Barbarian smile:

“In answer to that… Hum, yes I have made friends within the Watch I think, but more importantly I have made contact with people I can look up to, who I can aspire to be like and most importantly, people I can ask for advice on how to do so. But yes, I have made friends here.”

Even though still young, Lord Quartermaine has been around Qeynos and he has had a chat with most all it’s residents, but to the question of whom he likes to talk to the most he can do nothing but laugh.

“HA! Are you kidding me?! Names are like sand to me, they either stick or fall trough my drunken hands… I apologize for that but would like to take this opportunity to thank all those, who I have called BARKEEP - MORE BEER!!!”

I asked him where he would take the lady of his dreams if he was to take her on a date and surprisingly that made the young Barbarian blush.

“Erm… that is for me to know and for … umm … pass!”

I was unsure if I should let him pass a question of such importance, but seeing the awkward expression on his face I decided to let this one slip and move on to the subject “all time favourite zones to hunt in”

“Well, I spend most of my days in Antonica. The weather is usually good, it is close to home and you cannot go five steps without finding something to do.”

In answer to the question what he thinks is the best and the worst about his chosen profession Lord Quartermaine answered as follows:

“I am a Guardian; I thrive on the idea of helping people, which is what leads me to my profession. I guard and stop people getting hurt, that is good as far as I am concerned. As I said, I am a simple man. The worst part? I get hurt, but that leaves impressive scars… I have to wear heavy armour but that means I am more effective. I have to admit, I have yet to find any flaws.”

Now what would Lord Quartermaine be if he wasn’t a Guardian?

“Need you ask? Always fancied myself as a brewer, you see, I couldn’t be a bar owner, I would be my own best costumer.”

So, what would young Lord Quartermaine change about himself if he could?

“Hum… I would have more skin; I am running out of room for my tattoos”

Lord Quartermaine does have a lot of tattoos, some visible some more hidden he told me. In answer to the question of why he has so many tattoos he answered me with his Barbarian smile.

“Each one has its own purpose, and you haven’t got all night, but most of them are symbolic of my clan, my lineage and I now add personal ones. I have added one only recently actually. The reason it’s there knows I and one more, tell you what, if you ever see my bare left arm, just ask.”

In answer to the question if the barbarian has any hobbies beside protection people, tattoos and the occasional ale, Lord Quartermaine said he likes fishing a lot and that he recently picked up some tricks from a young fisher girl in the harbour.

Lord Quartermaine told me his inn – room was quit comfy and nice but I had to ask him if there was any paining of Norrath that he would like to add.

“Oakmyst Forest, the Unicorn… Although South Qeynos is quit lovely as well” he said with a grin spreading across his face.

I asked him to elaborate why he would choose Oakmyst Forest;

“Well you see, when I arrived here it was the first place where I felt that I was actually… beginning my path, does that sound weird? And if you want to know what was so special about it, try walking around a corner and almost bump into a big white horse with a horn, which enraptured me with its beauty, and terrified me with its powers. Now of course I know the truth about the Unicorn, but still when I look upon her I am mesmerized by her… Truly a symbol, and yet so real. And in Oakmyst Forest is where I met my Officer who invited me to join the Family and that day will never be forgotten.”

What does make our young Lord truly happy, and what makes him sad?

“Happy? I was schooled by a wizard, learning a great deal, about languages and responsibility, yet after taking the blade – oath I have never been more at peace than when wielding my axe. As far as sad goes…Hum, well, when a friend has troubles… I am saddened by the emotional change in them, but that drives me to help them more and aiding someone to find something is its own reward.”

I asked Lord Quartermaine where he sees himself 30 circles from now.

“Quartermaine is Quartermaine. But in that time I will have, I like to think, been able to show more people who I am. Helping them, joining them and in some cases even opposing them. In thirty circle I will be more able, but still me.”

After this long, and very interesting conversation I asked the young Barbarian if he had anything to add.

“Thank you. It has been a pleasure. I would only like to add that the honour of being asked to join Truewatch will never fade from me. And please, if you see me, don’t hesitate to grab me, and ask for anything. And I have no problems with buying a round either.”

After this we set out to take some pictures of the young lord and when I walked up behind him I saw something written on the back of his armour. It read “I am a tank – if you see me running try to keep up!!”
