The Trinket

We two here with likened mind,
Our paths converged and fates entwined,
A trinket found amongst the fray,
Has caught both our eyes today.
-
A subtle glance between portents,
That rivals stand where once were friends,
Subtle betrayals we both devise,
To take that one coveted prize.
-
But squarely in the fates' domain,
And whim is choice of who can claim,
This gem, this gift of value rare,
We can do naught but stand and glare.
-
As dice are rolled and laid to rest,
My heart sinks down within my chest,
"Well done" I shout, "congrats my friend!",
And whisper a curse for a fiery end.
