The naming of Brethil
From WikiWatch
Lady Brethil, a Dwarf warden was born in a to the eye ordinary Dwarf family.... But her name tells that there must be something extraordinary...as her name is Elvish, not Dwarvish... Brethil is named by her mother Belya who owed her life to the Wood Elves. And in honour of the Wood Elves she named her daughter Brethil, which also means (Silver) Birch tree. But why did she... what happened... here's the story... Brethil's mother found herself in a very tight spot one day while out in the woods to chop some wood for the fire. Out of nowhere she was cornered by an enormous Great Bear. She fought it all she could, but as a simple housewife her powers were not matched with this great beast. The bear wounded her heavily... and just as she thought her time in Norrath was through... the Bear ran away from her. A group of Wood Elves heard her screaming and chased the Bear away. As she was badly wounded they took her to their home up in the trees to take care of her. Belya stayed with the Elves for several weeks recovering from her severe wounds. In that time she grew fond of her caretakers and the Wood Elves respected Belya, who told numerous Dwarf Stories at night to entertain them. After her safe return to her husband and children Belya stayed in contact with the Wood Elves. When Brethil was born, the Wood Elves were present at the naming ceremony, Brethil was the first Dwarf in her family to be given an Elven name. She was teased with her name by other Dwarves, but she did not care and was happy to tell the story that led to her name.
